Acquired to bring stability to the team, Darnold's NFL experience gives him a significant edge over rookie J.J. McCarthy, who was selected 10th overall by the Vikings in April. Head coach Kevin O'Connell has emphasized, "this is Darnold’s team until further notice."
During team drills, Darnold has shown poise and precision, notable in a perfect over-the-shoulder throw to wide receiver Jordan Addison. Because you need that as a quarterback. You can't be going into a huddle or a practice and being like, this guy's not confident. This guy doesn't really jell with the group. Sam did that instantly."
